When a new technology is introduced, the function revolving around it changes it.
We are now in the midst of the digital age in enterntainment and culture. For those that have access to the internet, we can now choose what we expose ourselves to, and our influences control many aspects of our life.
Don't believe me.
-Listen to NWA or Rage Against the Machine and tell me you don't feel more aggressive.
-Watch CNN, MSNBC, or Fox and tell me you don't become frustrated
-Watch the nightly news and tell me you don't get mad or depressed
-Watch a TED Talk and tell me you don't get inspired
When we were growing up, the only way I knew about music was by listening to Dallas radio stations or watching MTV. That was it. If it wasn't on those 2 mediums, I didn't know the music existed. And I'm not even going to go into the fact that my parents grew up in an era that had 3 channels, so if it was broadcasted, they weren't aware of it.
I can now open Spotify and it becomes my choice. I now can open up iTunes and listen to 1000's of podcast or better yet, open iTunes U and get knowledge that used to be exclusive. I can open Hulu, Vimeo, Netflix, and YouTube to decide what I'm going to view.
I decide. Both good and bad. Both productive and wasteful. Both driving and apathetic.
It's beautiful that you can now control your worldview, culture, theology, convictions, and expression if you choose to. You can take college classes on iTunes U for free. You can listen to sermons from Washington. You can listen to unfiltered viewpoints.
You can also blame yourself if you choose to visit only facebook or failblog. You can blame yourself if you aren't growing.
Explore and grow.
